Groups: Troubleshooting guide

This guide covers error messages you may see when managing groups. For how groups and group access work, see Groups overview. For making programmes available to groups, see Add a programme to a group.

"Learner groups cannot be moved between hierarchies"

What it means: you tried to move a group to a different root group or hierarchy. Groups can't be moved between hierarchies, even if no learners are in them. This is by design.

What to do: if you need the group in another hierarchy, create a new group with the same name in the right root group. You can then delete the old group if it's no longer needed. See Delete a user group.

"Please specify the employer group"

What it means: you're saving an employer user's profile without an employer group. Employer Groups is a mandatory field, because every employer user must be linked to at least one employer organisation.

What to do: assign the employer user to at least one employer group, then save. See Employer groups.
