Overview

For programmes using both checkpoint and virtual assistant, learners and tutors benefit from an integrated experience that supports deeper learning and real-time feedback.

Learners can access the virtual assistant from:

  • The checkpoint summary screen

  • The historical checkpoints screen

This integration encourages reflection, addresses misconceptions, and promotes active learning.

Benefits for learners

Learners receive tailored guidance on completed questions, offering two key advantages:

  • Understand correct answers – The virtual assistant explains the reasoning behind correct responses to reinforce learning.

  • Clarify incorrect responses – It identifies knowledge gaps and explains why an answer was wrong, guiding learners towards the correct thinking.

While checkpoint offers basic feedback, the virtual assistant allows a more in-depth, interactive discussion.

How to access

After completing a checkpoint, learners can:

  • View the checkpoint summary screen

  • Select ‘Get help with this question’ next to each response to engage the virtual assistant

This opens the virtual assistant with the selected question, where learners receive detailed feedback and can interact to explore further information.

Access the virtual assistant via the historical checkpoints screen.

On the historical checkpoints screen, learners can select the 'Get help with this question' option on each of the checkpoint answers.

This will open the virtual assistant with the question, and the virtual assistant will provide detailed information/feedback to the learner. The learner can then interact with the virtual assistant and get further information.

Key benefits for tutors

This functionality shortens feedback loops and reduces the volume of queries directed to tutors. This means that tutors can manage their time more efficiently while ensuring learners receive faster, more actionable insights.

View audit history

After a learner interacts with the virtual assistant on checkpoint questions, tutors can view these interactions through the audit history in the learner's profile. This provides real-time visibility into learner queries, enabling more effective support and opportunities to improve instruction.
