Training Plan v2.1 is the latest version of the DfE Training Plan compliance document. Like earlier versions, it sets out how the apprentice, employer, and training provider will support the apprenticeship, along with the key milestones and the learning plan.
v2.1 keeps the structure of DfE – Training Plan v1 but changes how some date and duration fields are calculated and displayed, so the plan reflects a more accurate and compliant programme timeline. Use this article alongside the v1 article: the v1 article still describes the fields and sections that have not changed, and this article covers what is different in v2.1.
What's new in v2.1
Estimated end date of the practical period
In v2.1, this field uses the later of two dates:
- the ILR planned end date (derived from the learner's ILR), or
- the programme planned end date.
Aptem takes whichever of these two dates is later. This makes sure the practical period reflects the most compliant and accurate end date for the programme.
For example, if the ILR planned end date is 31 July 2027 and the programme planned end date is 15 August 2027, v2.1 uses 15 August 2027, because it is the later of the two.
Duration of the practical period
v2.1 now calculates the duration of the practical period using the later of the same two dates (the ILR planned end date or the programme planned end date). Basing the duration on the later end date gives a more accurate representation of the length of the learner's programme.
ILR planned end date field
v2.1 includes the ILR planned end date as a separate, clearly labelled field. You can now see both the ILR planned end date and the programme planned end date on the plan. Showing both dates makes it easier to understand how the calculated values have been reached.
Standard version field
If a learner has a standard version set in Aptem, the generated Training Plan v2.1 document includes the Standard version field. If no standard version is set for the learner, Aptem leaves the field blank.
