Overview

This page describes how administrators and tutors can manage marking aid exercises for individual learners directly within Console.

Using this functionality, you can:

  • Link a marking aid exercise to an ad-hoc component for a specific learner
  • Edit the configuration of a marking aid exercise for that learner
  • Remove or replace a marking aid exercise at the learner level
  • Do all of this without affecting other learners on the same programme.

This provides a flexible and efficient way to personalise learner workflows while ensuring that marking aid exercises remain fully functional for marking and feedback.

Prerequisites and access control

This functionality is available if:

  • Marking aid is enabled for the tenant.
  • The “Learning Plan” token is enabled on the Account Programme.

Admins and tutors can manage marking aid exercises in Console under these conditions:

  • For ad-hoc components (not finished): available to admins.
  • For programme-level components (not finished): available to admins with “Advanced Delivery Management (Edit)” role.
  • For finished ad-hoc components: available to admins with “Supervisor” or “Edit/Delete Finished Components” role.
  • For finished programme-level components: requires both “Advanced Delivery Management (Edit)” and either “Supervisor” or “Edit/Delete Finished Components” roles.

Link or edit a marking aid exercise for an existing component

As an admin or tutor using Console, you can add, remove, re-link, or edit a marking aid exercise for an individual learner’s component.

  1. Open the learner’s Learning Plan in Console.
  2. Select the ad-hoc or programme-level component you wish to manage.
  3. Click ‘Edit’ on the marking aid exercise link.
  4. In the marking aid exercise window:
    • Update the exercise link (link a new exercise or remove an existing one).
    • Edit exercise details directly (title, description, questions, pre-configured feedback, rubrics, etc.).

Unlink a marking aid exercise from a component

Admins or tutors can change the linked exercise by first removing it from the component and then creating a new marking aid exercise. To un-link an exercise:

  1. Open the learner’s Learning Plan in Console.
  2. Select the ad-hoc or programme-level component you wish to manage.
  3. Click the unlink icon next to the marking aid exercise.
  4. Confirm the change.

Notes

  • Clicking ‘Save’ in the marking aid editing window immediately saves changes, even if you later cancel out of the activity.
  • If an exercise link is updated for a component with an existing learner submission, a confirmation prompt will inform you of the submission so that:
    • Outstanding marking can be completed before updating.
    • Historical evidence will be correctly transformed:
      • If marked and downloaded, it becomes a Document evidence type.
      • If unmarked, it becomes a Note evidence type and access to the submission data will be lost.
  • After a link update, the learner will need to submit a new attempt for the newly linked exercise for the component to be considered complete.
  • Adding or removing a marking aid exercise at the programme level no longer impacts existing learners’ Learning Plans.
  • Such changes apply only to learners enrolled after the change.
  • This ensures learner-specific adjustments in Console do not unintentionally affect other learners’ records.

For programme-level marking aid exercise setup and configuration, see: Configuring marking aid within programmes.
