Overview
This page describes how administrators can configure learning plan components to utilise Aptem’s marking aid and feedback assistant functionality.
Administrators can seamlessly link learning plan components to marking aid, enabling structured exercises that support streamlined submission, consistent marking, rubric-based grading, and quality feedback.
This functionality is enabled at the tenant level by Aptem and can then be configured by customers at the programme level to match operational needs. Administrators with the "Advanced delivery management" permission can create marking aid exercises at a learner level.
Note: This functionality is not fully supported on the Safari browser.
Configuring marking aid within programmes
Marking aid allows you to link structured exercises from Graide to learning plan components in Aptem. You can manage the full exercise lifecycle -- creating, linking, versioning, and unlinking exercises -- from the marking aid management area in Aptem Console.
Note: Marking aid must be enabled for your tenant before you can configure it. Contact your Customer Success Manager if you need it enabled.
Before you begin
You need the following roles to manage marking aid exercises:
Manage programmes -- to access and edit programme and learning plan configuration
Manage marking aid exercises -- to create, link, version, and unlink exercises from the marking aid management area
Without both roles, the marking aid admin actions are not available in the learning plan or the management area.
Access the marking aid management area
Sign in to Aptem Console as an administrator.
Select Marking aid from the left-hand navigation.
Select the exercise you want to manage from the list.
The management area shows a grid of learning plan components with their linked exercises, learner details, scores, and component status.
Create and link a new exercise
You can create a new exercise and link it to a learning plan component directly from the marking aid management area, without using Programme Builder.
In the marking aid management area, find the component you want to link an exercise to.
Select Create new exercise.
Complete the exercise setup in the Graide panel. Enter a title and configure questions as required.
Select Save to create the exercise. The exercise is linked to the component automatically.
You are prompted to choose whether to apply this exercise to learners who are already enrolled. Select Apply to existing learners to do this, or select Skip to apply only to new enrolments.
Unlink an exercise from a component
In the marking aid management area, find the component with the exercise you want to unlink.
Select the component to open its details.
Select Unlink exercise.
Confirm the action in the prompt that appears.
The exercise is unlinked from the component. Existing learner submissions are not removed.
Create a new exercise version
When you need to update an exercise (for example, to change questions or update content), create a new version rather than editing the existing one. This preserves the history of previous submissions.
In the marking aid management area, find the component with the exercise you want to version.
Select Create new version.
Make your changes in the Graide panel.
Select Save to create the new version.
-
You are prompted to choose whether to apply the new version to learners who are already enrolled:
Select Apply to existing learners to update their linked exercise to the new version.
Select Skip to apply the new version to new enrolments only.
Note: Choosing to apply a new version to existing learners will sync the updated exercise to their learning plans. Learners who have already submitted work against the previous version retain their submissions.
Navigate from Programme Builder to the exercise details
If you are working in Programme Builder and want to view or manage the exercise linked to a component, you can navigate directly to the exercise details in the marking aid management area.
In Programme Builder, open the learning plan token and locate the component.
Select the link next to the exercise name on the component.
You are taken directly to the exercise details in the marking aid management area in Console.
Configure exercises in Programme Builder
You can also link exercises in Programme Builder (Classic). This method is available as an alternative but the marking aid management area in Console is the recommended approach for day-to-day exercise management.
Navigate to the Programme Builder for the relevant delivery programme.
Select the Learning Plan token.
Select Add new component and choose the relevant component type.
Complete the component setup and select Link marking aid assignment to link the component to a Graide exercise.
Follow the prompts to create a new assignment or select an existing one.
Select Confirm in the learning plan token and then Save in Programme Builder.
