Overview
You can use marking aid features with learning plan components that are part of a sub-programme.
Using marking aid with sub-programmes
For the most part, nothing changes.
Marking aid learning plan components in sub-programmes follow the same configuration, submission, and marking process as delivery programmes:
Admins: Configure marking aid learning plan components.
Learners: Submit marking aid exercises.
Tutors: Mark marking aid exercises.
All existing behaviours, workflows, and processes remain unchanged when marking aid is linked to a sub-programme component.
The one key difference
The only scenario where behaviour changes is when a learner moves from one delivery programme to another that includes the same sub-programme. In this case, marking aid components behave as follows:
-
Exercise completed and marked
The learner’s exercise and feedback history are retained.
They can start a new attempt if needed.
-
Exercise completed but not marked
The learner’s exercise history is retained.
The tutor can complete the marking once the learner resubmits their data in Aptem.
-
Exercise started but not submitted
Any saved progress is retained.
The learner can continue from where they left off.
This also applies when learners progress from one apprenticeship level to another (e.g., Level 2 → Level 3) where the same sub-programme is included (such as wider learning).
In these cases, previous answers are preserved, allowing tutors and learners to see progress over time and demonstrate distance travelled, upskilling, and improvement.
Notes
The component status will display as Not Started or Evidence Required (depending on the type), but learners and tutors can continue as described above.
Any submissions or marking actions update the component status once the learner has resubmitted.
Where an exercise was completed and marked, tutors must still access the exercise and either accept or refer it for the component status to update (unless the learner is starting a new attempt).
