Edit marking aid components and exercises

Overview

Administrators can edit the content of an existing marking aid exercise linked to a Learning Plan component, subject to certain conditions. This allows admins to:

• Correct or improve exercise content (e.g., title, description, questions)
• Pre-configure additional feedback, feedback groups, and essay rubrics to support tutor marking efficiency and consistency.

Rules for editing Learning Plan components

Existing Learning Plan component functionality remains whereby changes can be made.

• Marking aid exercises cannot be removed or changed to a different exercise, if at least 1 learner exercise has been submitted against the exercise linked to the Aptem Learning Plan component.
• If no exercises have been submitted against the exercise linked to the Learning Plan component, admins will be able to edit or remove the linked exercise.

Rules for editing marking aid exercise 

If no learners have submitted an exercise for the component:

• Admins can edit the exercise content, but can not add additional questions.
• Add or edit pre-configured feedback items, feedback groups, or rubrics.
• Admins can remove or replace the linked exercise entirely.

If submissions exist for the component:

• Admins can edit the exercise content, but can not add additional questions.
• Add or edit pre-configured feedback items, feedback groups, or rubrics.
• Admins cannot remove or replace the linked exercise directly in this case.

Notes

Edits made to an exercise apply globally to all learners who have this exercise in their Learning Plan, including learners who have already completed the component.

To switch to a completely different exercise:

• The admin must first remove the existing exercise (only possible if no submissions exist),
• Then create and link a new Marking Aid exercise.

Edit the content of a marking aid exercise

1. Open the Programme Builder and navigate to the Learning Plan.
2. Locate the component that uses a marking aid exercise and click the ‘Edit’ link icon next to the exercise.
   
3. Alternatively, you can click the 'Edit' option on the Assignment summary screen.
   
   
4. Subject to the permissions you have, you can also edit the exercise from the Console view.
5. In the editing interface, you can make the following changes in Step 1: Content:
   
   • Use the 'Edit question' button to:
     • amend the title or description of the exercise.
     • edit or add questions.
   • Use the 'Edit feedback' button and pre-configure feedback items, feedback groups, or essay rubrics.
   • Click 'Next Step' when you are done.
6. On the Step 2: Info screen, you can edit the exercise description. Click 'Save & Close'.
7. On the Assignment summary screen, click 'Publish Assignment'.

Any changes to the exercise will be updated for all learners that have this within their learning plan, even if they have completed the component.

Best practice reminder

• This editing functionality is intended for small corrections and improvements to exercise content.
• If you need to replace the exercise entirely (e.g., different questions or purpose), you must first remove the existing link and add a new marking aid exercise.
