Use the Assignment (Task) activity type when learners are required to write an assignment. You can set a due date, which creates a diary entry for the learner.
Adding an assignment (task) activity
To add an activity, see: Add activities to an action plan.
Enter a name for the activity and set the Activity Type to Assignment (Task).
Assignment (task) activity fields
The following fields are available for this activity type:
- Completion mode
- Instructions
- Evidence required
- Minimum number of evidence
- Complete by
- Planned hours
- Activity owner
- Documents
- Create a task
Completion mode
This field determines how the activity status is updated. The task must be marked as complete by the learner or tutor before the activity can be completed.
Two options are available:
- All Evidence Accepted: completing the task is mandatory for the activity to be marked as complete.
- Tutor Decides: the tutor or administrator can mark the activity as complete without the task being completed. If the Evidence Required option is enabled, the minimum number of evidence pieces must be submitted and marked against the mapped criteria before the activity can be completed manually. The Complete Component button will not appear until all criteria have been met.
Instructions
Enter any instructions the learner should see when viewing this activity in their action plan.
Evidence required
Select Evidence required if the learner must submit and have evidence marked before the activity can be completed. This is selected by default.
Minimum number of evidence
Sets the minimum number of evidence submissions required from the learner. The activity will not be marked as complete until this number is reached. This field is only available when Evidence Required is selected.
Complete by
Set the date or timeframe by which the learner is expected to complete the activity. This determines where the activity appears in the chronological order of the action plan.
You can specify the complete by timeframe as a date, or as a number of months, weeks, or days from the start of the programme:
- Date: the activity must be completed before the specified date.
- Months: the activity must be completed within that many months from the programme start date. For example, entering 1 means within one month of the start.
- Weeks: the activity must be completed within that many weeks from the programme start date.
- Days: the activity must be completed within that many days from the programme start date. For example, entering 10 means within 10 days of the start.
Planned hours
Enter the number of planned off-the-job (OTJ) hours for this activity. These hours are displayed on the Commitment Statement at the start of the programme. If OTJ hours do not apply to this activity, leave this field as 0.
Activity owner
Select the person responsible for delivering this activity. Defaults to the primary tutor.
Documents
Attach any documents the learner needs to access as part of the activity.
Create a task
Select Create a Task to add a diary entry for the activity. Additional fields appear for you to specify the task details.
The task must be marked as complete by the learner or tutor for the Assignment (Task) activity to be completed. For more information, see: Marking a task as complete.
