Overview
The cloning feature allows administrators to create new exercises by cloning existing ones instead of rebuilding from scratch. This is especially useful for generic or similar exercises where the structure, questions, and feedback remain consistent.
Key benefits
Efficiency for admins: Save time by using proven exercises as templates.
Smarter AI feedback: The AI carries over its existing learning, improving feedback accuracy.
Consistency for learners: Maintain uniformity across exercises and programmes.
Clone a marking aid exercise
Administrators can clone an existing marking aid exercise to use it as the starting point for a new one. This is useful for exercises that share a similar structure, questions, or feedback, as it saves time and carries over the AI's existing learning to the new exercise.
Who can do this: administrators with both the Manage marking aid exercises and Manage Programme roles.
Select an exercise to clone
Navigate to the Marking Aid admin area in Console.
Find the exercise you want to clone and select it.
Select Clone.
Review the exercise details shown before continuing.
Choose a programme and component
When prompted, select the programme and learning plan component you want to link the cloned exercise to.
Select Next. The new exercise details screen opens.
Note: Cloning is only available for components already configured against a programme. Standalone components are not supported.
Edit the cloned exercise
The cloned exercise is pre-populated with all content from the original, including questions, feedback, and rubrics. Review the content and make any adjustments needed.
Select Save and close to complete the cloning process.
Note: Keep edits minor. Significant changes to questions, feedback, or rubrics after cloning will reduce the AI feedback quality, as the AI's learning is based on the original exercise's content and patterns.
Track and navigate clones
Once cloned, the new exercise appears in the Marking Aid admin area and is identified as a clone. From the cloned exercise's detail view, you can navigate back to the original exercise. You can also view all clones of a given exercise to see how it has been reused across programmes.
How AI learning works with clones
When you clone an exercise, the AI's learning from the original is carried over to the clone at the point of cloning. After that point, the original and the clone learn independently. Changes to marking patterns on one exercise do not affect the other.
For best results, clone exercises that are generic or structurally similar, and avoid making large changes to the cloned content post-creation.
