Training – Apprenticeship Units is a delivery type for shorter, unit-based apprenticeship provision. Use it when a learner is completing individual apprenticeship units rather than a full standard-length delivery programme.
Setting up a Training – Apprenticeship Units programme
In Programme Builder, create or edit a delivery programme.
Set the delivery type to Training – Apprenticeship Units.
Selecting this delivery type automatically sets the programme's ILR programme type to 34 and enables delivery hours tracking on learning plan components.
Funding rate
In the programme's ILR token, record the funding rate that applies to the unit.
Where set, this value is pre-filled when the programme is applied to a learner, and can still be edited for individual learners where needed.
Applying the programme to a learner
You can apply a Training – Apprenticeship Units programme to a learner individually or via CSV import.
Applying individually
Go to the learner's profile and select Apply programme.
Select the Training – Apprenticeship Units programme.
Complete the unit-specific fields.
Note: learners must be 19 or older, and the programme duration can't exceed 16 weeks. These are validated when the programme is applied.
Applying via CSV import
Use the CSV import template for unit programmes.
Include Planned Learning Hours and Agreed price for each learner record.
The same age and duration validations apply during CSV import as when applying the programme individually.
Agreed price
Once the programme is applied, the learner's programme record shows an Agreed price field, pre-filled from the programme's funding rate. You can edit this for the individual learner if needed.
Planning delivery hours
Because Training – Apprenticeship Units programmes don't use standard off-the-job hours tracking, delivery hours are planned at the component level instead. This is the unit-programme equivalent of off-the-job training hours on standard apprenticeships.
In a learning plan component, on either Programme Builder or a learner's learning plan, enter the planned delivery hours.
This field only appears for Training – Apprenticeship Units programmes. If you change a component's delivery type away from units, you'll see a warning and the planned hours will be removed.
Note: the Collect delivery hours option in Programme Requirements doesn't apply to unit programmes; delivery hours are driven by the component-level configuration described above instead.
Compliance document: Apprenticeship Unit Training Plan v1
Training – Apprenticeship Units programmes use a dedicated compliance document, the Apprenticeship Unit Training Plan v1, in place of the standard apprenticeship Training Plan and related documents.
The document covers:
Unit and employment details
Key milestones
Recognition of prior learning
Learning support
Commitments from the provider, employer, and learner
A learning plan section showing planned delivery hours
To use it:
In Programme Builder, add the Apprenticeship Unit Training Plan v1 token to your Training – Apprenticeship Units programme.
This template is only available for unit programmes. It doesn't replace or affect Training Plan v2.1 or any standard apprenticeship compliance documents.
