Admins can assign an off-the-job (OTJ) activity category to each learning plan component in Programme Builder. This gives providers a consistent, structured way to record the type of off-the-job training planned for each activity, supporting more detailed audit evidence and reporting.
Overview
The off-the-job activity category is an optional field on learning plan components in Programme Builder. It allows you to classify each component using a predefined list of activity types, aligned with common apprenticeship learning activities.
The category you assign in Programme Builder will be used in activity logging and reporting in future updates. In this initial release, the field is available at programme level only.
Note: The category field is optional and defaults to unselected. Existing components are not affected when the feature is enabled on your tenant.

The category is saved at programme level. Learners enrolled on the programme will have the category associated with their version of the component.
What's next
This is the first release of the off-the-job activity category feature. In a future update, the category will be visible to learners when they log activity hours, so they can select the correct type when recording their off-the-job training.
We'll share more details in the release notes when this becomes available.
