This article covers which browsers you can use with Aptem, how to use Aptem safely on a shared device, what to do if you need more than one type of account, and how Aptem handles network access.
Supported browsers
Aptem supports:
Google Chrome
Microsoft Edge
Opera
Firefox
Safari (Mac only).
Before each release, we test Aptem on the current and previous version of each supported browser.
On mobile devices, including iPads and other tablets, use the browser that came installed on the device.
Aptem is a web application, so you don't need to install anything, such as Java, on your computer.
Using a shared device
We recommend using Aptem only on your own device, or one given to you for your sole use, such as a work laptop.
If you have to use a shared device or someone else's device:
Use a private browsing window (InPrivate or Incognito).
Don't let the browser save your sign-in details.
Once you've signed out, clear the browser cache.
If you're both a learner and an Employer user
Some people need two roles in Aptem, for example a manager who is also doing an apprenticeship. Each role needs its own account with its own email address. You can't use the same email address for both, or switch between the two accounts. This is because a learner account holds data, such as the learning plan and programme history, that an Employer account doesn't.
To use both accounts at the same time, either:
sign in to one account in one browser and the other account in a different browser, or
use one browser, with one of the accounts in a private (Incognito) window.
Network access
Whitelisting: Aptem doesn't whitelist domains or IP addresses at network level.
Restricting sign-in by IP address: Aptem can restrict sign-ins to the IP address a user registered from. This isn't switched on by default.
For other ways to secure sign-in, see Configuring MFA on a tenant and Enable SAML for users and set up SSO login screen.
If something in Aptem isn't displaying properly, see Technical troubleshooting guide.
