A How-To-Guide to enabling the bksb API

Additional integrations / Add-ons

This article is about additional integrations / add-ons that are not part of any Aptem Apprentice package. If you want to use this functionality, please contact your Customer Success Manager. See Aptem Apprentice pricing and packages for information about the packages.

Introduction

The bksb integration allows Aptem to communicate with bksb via our API. This guide explains the steps you need to take to provide us with the required information to enable the API.

If you wish to enable the API connection, we need you to complete the following steps:

  • Generate and provide us with your bksb keys.

Generating your bksb keys

To generate your bksb keys we need you to complete the following steps:

  1. Log in to your bksb account and within settings locate the ‘API access keys’ page.
  2. Select ‘Aptem’ from the drop-down list of available API connections.
  3. After selecting Aptem as your API connection you will be presented with a screen similar to the below:

  4. Enable all the functions as indicated above by the red boxes. All elements should be enabled and set to allow.
  5. After enabling and setting the functions to allow, securely share the ‘Access Key ID’ and ‘Secret Access Key’ into a Word Document, save the document as ‘bksb keys’ and upload it in the files section of your Aptem tenant. However, if you wish to share your ‘Access Key ID’ and ‘Secret Access Key’ in a different secure way, speak to your Aptem contact to discuss.
  6. Aptem will then activate the API within your tenant.

Troubleshooting tip

Will the most recent bksb assessment result be reflected in the Aptem Functional Skills section when a learner retakes their assessment?

No, Aptem does not automatically retrieve retake results from bksb.

However, you can update the Functional Skills retake results manually through a review in the Functional Skills Assessments section, where you can click on the pencil icon to update the existing results with the most recent one, as illustrated below.
