Overview
The skills radar captures a learner's competency level and tracks their progression throughout the programme. Within each programme, multiple competencies can be added to measure a learner's current skill level against the KSBs (knowledge, skills and behaviours).
Learners can self-assess against each competency, which can prompt a conversation with their tutor. Tutors and employers then complete their own assessments through the review process. Each assessment is date-stamped and should be repeated throughout the programme.
The skills radar is visible to the learner, tutor, and employer.
Setting up employers to view or edit the skills radar
An employer's access to the skills radar is controlled by the permissions set against the skills radar section of a learner review:
- Can view: the employer can see the skills radar but cannot score competencies.
- Can edit: the employer can score competencies, add notes, and upload evidence.
Where an employer has edit access, they can also see the learner's and tutor's scores against each competency.
Making the skills radar mandatory for employers
Tutors can set the skills radar to be mandatory for an employer. When enabled, the employer must score every competency before they can save and close the review. If they attempt to save with the skills radar incomplete, a warning message is displayed and the review will not close.
If the skills radar is mandatory and the employer is completing it for the first time, all competencies must be scored before saving.
Navigation and screen layout
To view a learner's skills radar, select Skills radar from the learner navigation menu.
You can also navigate there from the learner management screen by selecting Skills radar from the View column dropdown.
The skills radar screen displays all configured competencies. Where a learner or tutor has submitted an assessment, the scores appear against each competency. If the tutor has set goals, these are shown as a dotted line on the radar.
Hover over a bar to view the details of previous assessments.
Show history
By default, the skills radar shows the most recent assessments from the learner, tutor, and employer. To view earlier assessments and track progress over time, use the Show history toggle.
Completing a skills radar assessment
To complete an assessment, navigate to the skills radar panel within a review. The skills radar panel only appears if your organisation has configured the review to include it.
The panel displays all competencies. Where the learner has already submitted an assessment, their scores are shown.
Select a competency to open a panel on the right. From here you can add your score, a note, or attach a file in support of your assessment.
Tutors can set a goal against each competency, shown as a dotted line on the radar. Employers cannot add goals.
Select Save to record your assessment.
