Overview

As a learner, you can submit exercises via the console interface within the learning plan. You can view feedback that your tutor has left for you. You can also resubmit exercises.

Submitting exercises

To submit exercises, follow these steps:

Navigate to the learning plan component associated with marking aid

  • Navigate to the relevant learning plan component configured for marking aid exercises.
  • Select the learning plan component to open the side panel to view the details of the learning plan component.

Start your exercise

  • Click the ‘Submit Exercise’ option in the side panel to open the exercise.
    • If learning plan components are not associated with the marking aid feature, the usual ‘Upload File’ and ‘Add Note’ options will be displayed.
  • Click ‘Begin’ to start your exercise.
    • You can enter text, insert images and use maths formatting.
    • Navigate through questions using the next and previous buttons.
  • Click 'Save and Review' if you want the exercise to be saved and edited at a later date before submitting it to your tutor for marking.
    • If you are not submitting the exercise at this time for your tutor to review, and plan to come back to it, once ‘Save and Review’ has been selected, do not select ‘Submit’ yet and click on ‘Cancel’, at the bottom right-hand corner.

Submit your exercise

  • Click ‘Submit’ to submit the exercise for marking.
    • A confirmation message will appear asking you to confirm your exercises. Selecting ‘Cancel’ will close the message and ensure the exercise is not sent to your tutor. Select ‘Yes’ to submit your exercise to your tutor for marking.
  • After you submit, you will be required to complete the standard Aptem evidence details:
    • Evidence type
    • Completion date
    • Does this count towards off-the-job hours?
      • Off-the-job hours spent
      • Off-the-job hours type
  • If this component requires you to select the KSB criteria mapping, you will be asked to complete this at this stage.
  • Click ‘Save’ to return to the learning plan component side panel. Here, you will see the status updated to ‘Evidence Submitted’, ready for your tutor to mark the exercise and add feedback.
  • When you submit a marking aid exercise, a clean PDF is generated automatically. The clean PDF includes only learner questions and answers. Tutor feedback, rubrics, and marker comments are excluded. Each new submission:
    • Replaces the previously submitted version.
    • Updates the existing evidence link so it always points to the latest submission.

Once you submit an exercise, any amendments will need to be added as a new attempt on this learning plan component. But this can only be done once the tutor has reviewed and marked the submitted attempt. Consider this before you submit your exercise.

Add supporting evidence to a marking aid learning plan component

In addition to completing and submitting your exercise, you can provide supporting evidence for the exercise that you have completed, e.g. a presentation, meetings notes, etc.

Add files and/or notes to the learning plan component. Note that the supporting evidence is attached to the learning plan component in Aptem.

The status of the marking aid component will be marked as "Completed" only when the component's completion criteria are fulfilled, and the marking aid evidence is in "Accepted" status

Multiple marking aid attempts under a single exercise evidence item

As a learner, when you view historical marking aid exercise submission attempts, you can now find it grouped under just one evidence item, within the assessment reports grid.

View feedback and resubmit your exercise

  • Once your tutor has marked your exercise, you can navigate to the learning plan component side panel and select the exercise to open it and view the comments and feedback left in-line.
    • You can optionally select ‘Archive Feedback’, to update the submission stage, from 'Marked' to 'Accepted Feedback'. Note that this has no effect on the completion status of the learning plan component.
  • If your exercise has been referred and your tutor requires you to add further work to reach the agreed criteria, you can resubmit the exercise. To resubmit:
    • Click 'Edit Exercise' on the learning plan component.
    • Click ‘New Attempt’ to restart the exercise.
    • Complete and submit the exercise. This creates a new version of the submission, and updates the status of the learning plan component, and allows your tutor to review and mark your new submission.
